Static scene

Post by jnickel »

Hi everyone,

I am new to Madrix and purchased a Entry (4 DMX universes) Madrix key.

I am going to use an ArtNet interface and WS2811 LEDs to control a light show for my daughters wedding.

I am putting the WS2811's inside paper lanterns and hanging them from the ceiling. I plan to put more of them over the dance floor and then the rest spread out over the whole area.

My plan is to have them going during the dance part of the reception. The ones over the dance floor would be more energetic and synchronized with the music and the ones over the rest of the area would just have a gentle color change or other pattern so that they wouldn't distract from peoples ability to talk etc.

I believe I can do all this.

The thing I can't figure out is this:

Prior to the dance, I would to have all the lanterns just display a static scene - Some mint, some white, some turquoise and just stay like that until the dance starts. That way, people won't realize that the lanterns are anything special, plus they won't distract from the other presentations that will be going on.

I can't figure out how to make a static scene without any lights changing. I have use QLC+ and I know how to do it there, but Madrix seems to be all about movement etc....is there anyway I can stay inside Madrix and just have a static scene for all the lanterns at the beginning and then switch to "dance" mode when I am ready?

Thanks in advance!

Hello jnickel,
Welcome to the MADRIX forum.
.
When you want to create a static effect in MADRIX you can use for instance the "SCE Color" effect for a static color over all patched and mapped fixtures or the "SCE Gradient" to create a color gradient with or without fade between the colors over the mapped fixtures. Also it is possible to set the BPM to 0 at some SCE effects like the "SCE Color Scroll" and the effect will also not moving.
Your explained result you can create by useing the "SCE Gradient" effect. With the help of the color ramp you set the desired colors and the desired position.
For the dynamic effects you prepare this effects easily on other storage places.
So you can switch after a desired time between the different storage places and with it different effects.
Another possibility to create the switch automatically would be to use the cuelist. With the help of the cuelist you can create an automatical switch between your desired storage places after a desired time.
Under the following link you can learn more about the cuelist:

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up using the SCE Color Scroll...choosing my 3 colours, setting the color width to 1 and the BPM to 0. Then by setting the direction selection to top-left, it is a kind of diagonal pattern which works for my purposes.

So...next question - since I am doing this for my daughters wedding and I don't really want to become a Madrix expert, are there some sample files/cue lists I can use for automatic Lights to Music for the dance portion of the reception - I would like it to be energetic when the song is faster, and smooth when the song is slow.

Thanks!

Hello jnickel,
.
You can easily open some sample MADRIX setups when you go in MADRIX to "File > Open Setup..." and now navigate to "Documents > MADRIX 3 > setups > samples".
.
Now you can have a look to all the samples and you can easily save and open desired effects/storage places of the sample setups by clicking on the desired stroage place with the right mouse button, choose "Save". Now back on your created setup. You activate an empty storage place, perform also a click with the right mouse button on this storage place and choose "Open".
In that way you can create your own setup with the help of the sample setups of MADRIX.
