Computer specification for 256 universe patch?

Post by Allard the Silent Oaf »

I am currently working on a TV show that uses 121 'full' universes, i.e. 510 dmx channels per universe.

I am experiencing jerky movement on some plasma effects and a slowish response time when snapping between effects.

The setup is as follows:

Artnet:
2x Madrix Luna 8
7X Madrix Luna 16

Cisco 2950 series 12 port switch

Usb:
1x Madrix Luna 8 (used primarilly as usb in port)

2x Ma onPC command wing
1x Ma onPC fader wing

Can you please specify a computer spec that could run a full 256 universe patch?
We recently upgraded to the ultimate licence and our hardware (PC) isn't suitable.

Thanks and best regards...

Hi all!
.
Sending a link from the help pages can be tricky. That is why, I will be pasting here again the link I think greywolf was trying to provide: http://help.madrix.com/m3/html/madrix/h ... ments.html
.
(Thanks blankcat!)
.
And, Allard the Silent Oaf, feel free to contact our support team at info[at]madrix.com should you need more information. Thanks!

I bought the following:

SUPERMICRO X10DRL-I Motherboard
2x INTEL Xeon E5-2620V3 2.4GHz 15MB 6C/12T
4x CRUCIAL CT8G4RFS4213 8GB ECC registered RAM
SAMSUNG 840 EVO series 250GB 25/S600 SSD
PNY Quadro K2200 4GB PCIe

The performance is greatly improved, however:

- color scroll effects without fade are still jerky, especially at low bpm (fades are smooth)
- plasma effects at low bpm are also jerky
- The tubes effect has a bug (or is there something I am doing wrong?) I want vertical tubes on vertical portions of the patch, and horizontal tubes on horizontals. But when I restart the effect, vertical tubes are turned back on on all layers with the tube effect.

Any advice is welcome...

Best regards

Hello Allard the Silent Oaf,
.
Congratulation to your high power PC.
.
Regarding the jerky:
What is the desired BPM?
Can you see the jerky at the fixtures and also at the MADRIX previews? Or only at the fixtures?
.
Regarding the issue in the "Tubes" effect:
This bug is fixed in MADRIX 3.3. You can download the MADRIX 3.3 RC here:
http://www.madrix.com/download/MADRIX_R ... ll_3_3.exe
.
I am looking forward to hearing from you!

The uneven movement is visible mostly on the fixtures.
The scroll effect does appear to jump a frame or two on the preview also, but that could be because I have been staring at the screen for too long

I think the problem is in the fixtures or in the data distribution.
Could this be solved by changing the dmx frame time?

Hello Allard the Silent Oaf,
.
When you see the jerk only at your fixtures it could be that the fixtures have not a good dimming curve.
.
You can increase the output frame rate of each port of the LUNA for instance to 50 FPS. Therefor please start MADRIX, and open the Device Manger ("Preferences > Device Manager"). Please select one or more desired ports of the LUNA in the "DMX Devices" tab, change the "Frame Time (ms)" in the "Settings" section to 20 and click "Apply". Now the DMX data will be send with 50 FPS to the ports of the LUNA.
