What's more important: GPU or CPU?

Post by RockitFX »

Hello,

I am getting ready to buy a computer for Madrix Professional, and I need to know what to prioritize. The install will use about 50 universes, and the LED strips will be controlled directly by Madrix. Does the GPU still handle the processing, or is that only when DVI is used? Should I get a powerful multi core CPU, or should I spend my money on the best graphics card I can afford? Thanks & regards!

Hi RockitFX,

The effect rendering in MADRIX is done on the CPU, thus the performance of the GPU is less, but also important. That means you should give the priority to the CPU. Therefore yes, source a powerful multicore CPU.

The GPU is used for the calculation of the internal and external previews and thus the DVI output. This is why we recommend to use a dedicated graphics cards to assure a fluent display of the previews.

we had this topic a few times on irc ... the problem is, its super stressy to get to the important part of the CPU - which is right under it.
so you would have to desolder the cpu....
